Immanuel Luth. Kimb.

Sunday Fete at Kimballton Honors Pastor

Atlantic News Telegraph, Tuesday, Oct. 28, 1953:

KIMBALLTON--The Kimballton Lutheran church celebrated the 50th anniversary of the ordination of the Rev. Valdemar S. Jensen with two special morning services and an afternoon program. The Rev. Mr. Jensen retired as pastor of the Oak Hill and St. John's Lutheran churches west of Exira because of ill health in 1945, and is now living in Des Moines. He still serves, however, as supply pastor wherever he is needed. Both he and his wife are Kimballton natives. The congregations of Oak Hill and St John's churches were invited to participate.

Rev. Mr. Jensen himself preached at the Danish service at 9:30 a. m. and the Rev. Verner Hansen of Des Moines, Oak Hill pastor, preached at the 11 o'clock service. A pot luck dinner was served at noon in the church basement.

The afternoon program was at 2:30 with three numbers by the choir led by Mrs. Sylvia Esbeck; talks by Rev. Holger Strandskov, pastor at Kimballton and the Rev. Alfred Jensen of Des Moines, former Kimballton pastor; two violin solos by Rev. Verner Hansen, accompanied by Mrs. Hansen; a talk by Rev. V. S. Jensen, the honoree; and two numbers by the junior choir. Lunch was served by the ladies of the church.

Rev. Jensen took his theological course at Grand View college seminary and also taught there from 1920 to 1925 and from 1944 to 1948. He was ordained at Oak Hill Oct. 4, 1903. Other congregations he has served are: Cozad, Neb.; Manistee, Mich.; Omaha, Neb., and Hartford, Conn. Mr. Jensen was 77 Saturday. He is the father of four boys: Halvor E., Brooklyn, N. Y., a stair builder; Thorvald J., of Mason City, Ia., city editor of the Globe-Gazette; Arthur V. of Long Island, N. Y., neurologist and assistant professor of neuro-anatomy at New York college of medicine; and Folmer E., Tipton, Ia., bulk oil station operator.
