Northwestern University, established in 1851, is located in Evanston, Illinois. It was the first recognized university in Illinois. The first building opened on November 5, 1855. Born 21 March 1877, at Postville, Ia. Daughter of Frederick S. and Flora Ketchum Burling. Received Ph.B., 1897 at Upper Iowa University. Residence (1903), Postville, Iowa. Married F. L. Marquis in 1910. She died 27 December, 1950.
Elberta Deal (Shultice)
Born 19 June, 1929 in Waterville, daughter of Dr. Jacob and Ella Deal. Studied at the Art Institute, Northwestern University. Married Richard Shultice. Died 20 August 2009.
Charles L. 'Red' Kluss
Son of Nina Rush Kluss Harrington (Mrs. Cyrus Harrington) and her first husband (? Kluss), he was born in Postville, Iowa. He was a graduate of the University of Iowa where he majored in commerce. He did post graduate studies in psychology and chemical engineering at the University of Chicago and Northwestern University. Married Madeline Riddell in 1933. Died in 1967 at 11M 25 Sutton Place South, New York.
Gertrude H. Reed
Born 23 January 1876 at Waukon, Ia. Prepared in South Division High School, Chicago. B.L. Kappa Kappa Gamma. Teacher of English in Kenosha (Wis.) High School, Sept. 1900 to Jan. 1903. Residence (1903) 2008 Sherman Ave., Evanston, Ill.
Helen A. Schulte (North)
Born 24 February 1918, in Dorchester, to Clem and Margaret (Schwartzhoff) Schulte. She served as a nurse in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during WWII, after which she attended Northwestern University in Chicago, earning her certification as a medical record administrator. She married John D. North in 1947, a marriage that ended in divorce. She died 8 February 2007 and is buried in St. Mary's Catholic cemetery, Dorchester.
Esther Louisa Stowe (Richards)

Born 27 May 1876, at Postville, Iowa, daughter of H.A. Stowe and Mary Courson Stowe. Prepared in Fort Dodge (Ia.) High School. Teaching in Plymouth, Ind. Residence (1903), Plymouth, Ind. She married Charles A. Richards, a Methodist minister.
Herman Wilmar Stowe
Born at Postville, Iowa, 14 April 1879, son of Herman Augustus and Mary M. (Courson) Stowe. He attended school at Fort Dodge, graduating from the high school in 1896. He later entered Northwestern University, graduating from the College of Liberal Arts, with the B. S. degree, in 1903, and receiving his LL. B. from Northwestern University Law School in 1905. In the fall of 1905 he was admitted to the Iowa bar and began practicing at Fort Dodge. He married Beulah Blagden in 1906. She also attended the College of Liberal Arts of Northwestern University. Ray F. Topliff
A son of John N. and Rachel Topliff, he was born 19 May 1884 on the family farm two miles west of Postville. Received the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1906 from Northwestern University Dental school of Chicago, Illinois. Married to Josephine Lennon in 1910. He died 21 November 1951.
