Mrs. F. L. (Josephine Burling) MARQUIS
Funeral services were held at the First Methodist Church in Waterloo on Tuesday, December 27, 1950, for Mrs. Josephine Burling Marquis, 72, who passed away at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo on December 24, 1950.
Active in church, educational and club work, Mrs. Marquis was a past president of the Waterloo Woman's club and past president of chapter F. E., P. E. O., besides serving on the West Waterloo school board. She was a member of the First Methodist church.
The daughter of Frederick S. and Flora Ketchum Burling; Mrs. Marquis was born March 21, 1877, at Postville. She graduated from Upper Iowa university, Fayette, and received a master's degree from Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois. She taught in schools at Batavia, Illinois, Wheaton, Illinois, and Duluth, Minnesota. She traveled in Europe prior to marriage in 1910 to F. L. Marquis of Waterloo.
Surviving are the husband; two sons, Richard, Fremont, Nebraska and Robert, at home; one brother, W. H. Burling, Postville, and one sister, Genevieve Burling, 309 Allen street, Waterloo, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
