SOLEMN HIGH MASS PLANNED
Monsignor Haxmeier Irremovable Since 1905

Lansing, Ia. – Special: The Most Rev. Monsignor G. L. Haxmeier, 83, will observe his diamond jubilee as pastor of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church here Wednesday morning with a solemn high mass.

He will be celebrant of the mass and other officers include: the Rev. N. U. Keffler, deacon; the Rev. Herbert Krieger, sub-deacon; and the Rev. Arthur Stern, master of ceremonies.

Following the church services a dinner will be served immediate relatives and visiting clergy at the parish hall. The celebrant’s brother, John Haxmeier of Bellevue, and his sister, Mrs. Frank Niemeier of Elkader, have indicated they will attend the affair.

Parish Picnic - During the dinner, the parish will hold a picnic in the City Park and in the afternoon a program and reception will be held at the City Hall. Mayor Frank Riser will give the address of welcome; Thomas Kerndt will extend the greetings of the parish; R. G. Miller will speak for the citizens and historical events in Monsignor Haxmeier’s life will be portrayed by models: Father Keffler will respond for the priesthood and the Rev. E. J. McDonald of Waukon for the deanery. The Most Rev. Archbishop Francis J. Beckman, STD, of Dubuque is scheduled to give an address.

Born in Jackson Co. - Monsignor Haxmeier was born Sept. 20, 1856 on a farm near St. Donatus in Jackson County. He completed his classical course at Mt. Calvary at Fond du Lac, Wis., at the Laurentiaum and later he studied theology at St. Francis Seminary at Montreal, Canada. He was ordained into the priesthood Dec. 20, 1879 and he said his first mass at St. Donatus on Dec. 30, 1879. He served as assistant pastor there until he came to Lansing on June 5, 1890.

On April 4, 1905 he was made irremovable and on Jan. 4, 1921 he was elevated to the monsignori by Pope Benedict XV. His present assistant is the Rev. J. H. Breitbach.

Monsignor Haxmeier is still enjoying excellent health
