Allamakee Album
Waters family

George Waters (1787-1857) and Elizabeth (Smith) Waters (1792-1870) had seven children.
Sons George Sr. (1824-1887), Robert Sr. (1821-1911) and Samuel Sr. (1833-1926). Robert and Samuel lived on adjoining farms in Allamakee county. Daughter Elizabeth Waters Grafton (1816 - 1886) remained in Ireland when the family immigrated to America*. Daughters, Mary Waters Tully (1817-1908) and Ann Waters Murray (1829-1890), are buried in the Frankville cemetery, Winneshiek county. Still searching for another daughter, Sarah (1826-?). She is believed to have married a Miller in Pennsylvania.  ...... Darrel K. Waters

*Addendum added April 12, 2009: "Just this very day I have found the resting place of my ggg grandparents. My ggg-grandmother, Elizabeth Grafton nee Waters, is buried at an old iron ore mining town in the NW of England called Millom, Cumbria. All her brothers and sisters and her parents emigrated to the US but she went to England in 18?? with her husband and died in 1886. It would mean a great deal to us if you could change when she died in in the 'Allamakee Family Waters family' web site page." ....... from Martin Grafton

Robert Waters, SR

Robert Waters Sr. and Sara McCann (1826-1894) were the parents of Robert Herbert (1862-1950), George A. (1860-1950), Rosetta Waters Merrick (1864-1947), Elizabeth Waters Breese (1855-1941) and Mary Ella Waters Livingood (1858-1914).  Robert Herbert was better known as Herb Waters.  After Robert Sr. died Robert Herbert farmed the land, and that farm remained in the Waters name for 104 years and three generations.  George A. purchased the Samuel Waters Sr. farm in 1912. George A. Waters was married twice – his first wife was Martha Jaquis (1862-1888). They had two children: Robert Jaquis Waters (1886—1959) and Ralph Daniel Waters (1888-1918).  Ralph was the first service man killed in WWI from Allamakee county.  Martha died 10 days after Ralph was born.  George A.’s second wife was Emeline 'Emma' Jane  Munson.
