Abijah, John, Mirian & Elijah Shaff
Moses Shaff, settled in Ludlow twp. Allamakee Co., in the early 1850s. The photo is four out of eight of his surviving children.
Left to right the brothers are: Abijah, John, and Elijah. Their sister is Miriam. Elijah and Abijah were identical twins. Elijah was wounded in the Civil War which can be seen in the picture on the right side of his face and neck.
Miriam Shaff married Homer Benjamin Allen, son of Lewis P. Allen. Elijah married Homer's sister, Phebe Allen.
Elijah Shaff, my 2nd great-grand father, fought in the 27th Iowa 27th Volunteer Militia, Company A.
Shaff, Elijah. Age 31. Waukon. Enlisted Aug. 13, 1862. Wounded slightly July 15, 1864, Old Town Creek, Miss. Promoted Sixth Corporal July 25, 1864; Fifth Corporal Oct. 15, 1864. Wounded Slightly Dec. 16, 1864, at Nashville, Tenn. Promoted Fourth Corporal Feb. 1, 1865. Discharged for disability June 17, 1865. Fort Gaines, Ala.

James Shaff was the brother of Moses Shaff. He settled in Ludlow twp. and was the first member of the Shaff family to settle in Allamakee Co.
