Herman was born in Germany on January 6, 1865. He immigrated to America at the age of 17. On March 3, 1892 he married Louise H. Klepper in Ludlow, who had also been born in Germany. The couple farmed in Ludlow twp.

Herman S. Hansmeier died April 29, 1928. Louise H. (Klepper) Hansmeier died April 24, 1958.

Herman and Louise had the following children:

Elmer – Born April 3, 1894 and died August 24, 1895.

John Elmer – Born April 19, 1896. Married Helen Adam. One child, Merlin. Died August 17, 1990.

Meta Louise – Born May 14, 1898. Married Martin Adam. One child, Reuben. Died November 23, 1934.

Esther Mary – Born April 26, 1901. Married Walter Fiet. One child, Delois. Died August 19, 1979.

Emma -- Born January 12, 1903. Married Arthur Stock. One child, Joyce. Died March 17, 1982.

Reuben – Born May 20, 1907. Married Gertrude Stock. Five children, Robert, Charlotte, Darlene, Richard, Linda. Died January 23, 1990.

Dorothy Miriam – Born March 7, 1914. Married Merle Haugen. One child, Rosalyn. Died March 24, 2003.
