Joseph H. Whitney

Joseph H. Whitney, 87, of Glendale, died Saturday, February 20, at Maryvale Samaritan Hospital.

He was born in Britton, S.D., and moved to Arizona from Michigan in 1911.

Mr. Whitney owned and operated the Western Auto Store in Glendale for 23 years.

He was a Glendale City Council member in the 1930s, a charter member of the Glendale Lions Club, a member of the First United Methodist Church of Glendale and a member of the Horseless Carriage Club of America.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys; one son, Joe H. of Tucson; one brother, Clarence of Glendale, two sister, Agnes Mayer of Mesa and Lois Moore of Corona D Tucson; three grandchildren, Joseph G. of Tucson, Gregory T. of Portland, Ore., and Dana M. Whitney of Tucson; and one great grandchild, Erin Whitney of Portland.

The service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 24, at the First United Methodist Church of Glendale, 7102 N. 58th Drive.

Interment was in Glendale Memorial Park.

Arrangements were made by Menke Funeral Home.
