This website was launched befittingly on the 71st Anniv. of the United States involvement in WWII, 12/7/2012.

Seventy-one years ago, the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, brought the U.S. into World War II. In his address asking Congress for a declaration of war, President Franklin D. Roosevelt called Dec. 7, 1941, a date that "will live in infamy."

- Sharon R. Becker has submitted the Cerro Gordo County Roll of Honor list. Linda Ziemann also found an old photograph & news item about the Clear Lake, Iowa, Honor Roll. Don't miss any of this great history now posted.

- Gene Lutz has submitted his photo of the Kellerton, Iowa, Honor Roll board (Ringgold County.) Also a Ringgold County Honor Roll veteran board photo has been submitted by volunteer, Mike Avitt.

- Mary Lynn ReVoir & her aunt, Bernadette, have submitted a fabulous pdf set of pages, which tell some of the story of their WWII veteran, Cletus J. Unterberger from Allamakee County IA. Cletus was a German prisoner of war. Mary has done a very good job of scanning images of pages from the diary that her Uncle Clete kept during his time as a POW. Thanks to Mary and Bernadette, who is the wife of Cletus.

- "Ann of Iowa" Red Cross Service Club worker--Don't miss these articles about Ann and her beautiful voice that she used to cheer so many infantrymen. The father of this county coordinator met Ann as he was a wounded soldier in a Paris, France hospital on New Years Eve, 1944.

- Kermit Kittleson has submitted an updated Mitchell County Roll of Honor, WWII Vets. Scores more of names have been added to this list. Huge thanks to Kermit & his helpers for their diligent work to accomplish the more updated list of names!

- Many Woodbury County servicemen and women story pages are being posted daily. We have volunteer, Connie Swearingen, to thank for sharing her WWII NW Iowa research with this website. Connie has promised to keep sending her treasure trove of information in the days and weeks ahead. Many of Connie's submissions include bios written by the serviceman or woman/or written by family members, which include interesting photos. This is just the beginning. Keep watch for more.

Emerson of Dickinson County and Rocky Fronk of Dickinson County. In fact two letters from Rocky written to his mother are now posted. Kenneth Emerson wrote his view/s of the landing in North Africa.
