A Big Day for the WAVES -- 15 Iowa Girls Join

Monday was a big day for girls to join the WAVES as 15 Iowa girls took the oath and received their orders for training at the old federal building. JUNE STEADMAN TO WED

Mr. and Mrs. Wayne J. Steadman, 2801 Westover blvd., announce the engagement of their daughter, June Naydeen, pharmacist's mate, third class, WAVES, and Lieut. John A. Kennedy, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. James A. Kennedy of Chicago and Valparaiso, Ind.

The wedding will take place in the early spring.

Miss Steadman was graduated from Roosevelt High school and attended the American Institute of Business and Bethel Women's college at Hopkinsville, Ky. She formerly was employed by Bankers Life Co and T.W.A. airlines in Kansas City, Mo.

Lieutenant Kennedy was graduated from Morgan Park Military academy in Chicago and Northwestern university at Evanston, Ill., where he affiliated with Kappa Sigma fraternity. He has served three years in the Pacific area and has received the Purple Heart, presidential citation and commendation from the secretary of the navy.
