Elsa C. Soenke Is Officer of WAVES

Miss Elsa C. Soenke, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest E. Soenke, 2226 Ripley street, has been commissioned as an ensign in the WAVES and is now stationed in the navy department at Washington, D.C.

Ensign Soenke received her training at Smith college, Northampton, Mass. She attended Augustana college, the university of Iowa and the School of Art at the Chicago Art Institute.

She was formerly employed as an interior decorator at Montgomery Ward in Chicago.

Lt. (j.g.) Elsa Soenke of the WAVES, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest E. Soenke, 2226 Ripley street, is visiting her parents while on leave from her station in Washington, where she is on duty in the office of Admiral Ernest King, commander-in-chief of American naval forces.

Lt. Soenke was recently promoted from the rank of ensign to her present grade. She received her training at Smith college, Northampton, Mass. Prior to entering the navy she attended Augustana college, the University of Iowa and the School of Art at the Chicago Art Institute. She was commissioned an ensign in July, 1943.

She was formerly employed as an interior decorator at Montgomery Ward & Co. in Chicago.
