Ensign Bette Jean Rakow

 

 

COMMISSIONED -- Bette Jean Rakow, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.F. Rakow, 1208 Oakland drive, has been commissioned an ensign following completion of training at the Naval Reserve Midshipmen's school at Northhampton, Mass. She has been assigned to duty at the Naval Supply Depot, Mechanicsburg, Pa.

Ensign Rakow attended Christian college, Columbia, Mo., and the University of Iowa, where she received her B.A. degree. Before joining the Women's Reserve she was employed at the Northwestern Trust co., Chicago. Ensign Rakow was vice president and treasurer of Chi Omega sorority and was a member of Delta Psi Omega, honorary dramatic society, the University chorus and was prominent in radio work at both schools.

Bette Jean Rakow Killeen was born Mar. 21, 1921 to Edward and Verna Horton Rakow. She died Oct. 8, 2015 in FL.

Bette served in World War II with the U.S. Navy WAVES. She was married to James Killeen.
