Mrs. Gladys McNamara McGee

 

SISTERS -- Miss Mabel McNamara and Mrs. Gladys McNamara McGee, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. J.J. McNamara, 26 Oak Lane, will take their indoctrination training in the WAVES at Hunter college, New York City.

Miss McNamara left Davenport Monday for Chicago to be sworn in on her 20th birthday. Mrs. McGee expects to report at Hunter college on Saturday.

Both are graduates of the Immaculate Conception Academy, Miss McNamara was employed in the classified advertising department of The Democrat prior to her enlistment. She is a past president of the Gamma Theta club and is a pledge of Epsilon Mu chapter of Sigma Phi Gamma sorority. Mrs. McGee was employed at the Rock Island arsenal. She is a member of the Gamma chapter of Beta Alpha Beta sorority.

Gladys McGee of The WAVES Is Link Trainer in Texas

Gladys McGee, specialist technician third class, in the WAVES, has been transferred to Corpus Christi, Texas, where she is a link trainer instructor at the naval air station.

She received her training at Atlanta, Ga.

She is the former Gladys McNamara, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.J. McNamara of 26 Oak Lane.

Her husband is Staff Sgt. Lyle J. McGee and he is stationed in Trinidad.

Army Husband, Navy Wife Are Reunited

Tech. Sgt. Lyle McGee and his wife, Gladys McGee, specialist trainer second class of the WAVES, were separated when called to duty five days after thier marriage are together again.

Sgt. McGee was a 21-day furlough, after having been in Trinidad in the supply department for the medical corps since September, 1942. Sgt. McGee arrived home first and upon receiving word that his wife was receiving a 14-day leave, left for Kansas City, Mo., to meet her.

Sgt. McGee entered the army April 28, 1942 and received his training at Camp Barkley, Tex., and was then assigned to overseas duty. Upon completion of his furlough, he will report to North Carolina for further orders.

Mrs. McGee.entered the WAVES Sept 9, 1943 and reported to Hunter college, N.Y. She took link trainer training in Atlanta, Ga., and is now stationed at Corpus Christi, where she is a link trainer instructor.

Both Sgt McGee and his wife were employed at the Rock Island arsenal before entering the service.

Mrs. McGee's parents are Mr. and Mrs. J.J. McNamara of 26 Oak Lane and Sgt. McGee's parents are Mr. and Mrs. T.L. McGee of 1504 Pershing avenue.

WAVE of the Day

Gladys McGee, 26 Oak lane, has just been promoted from a specialist trainer, third class to specialist trainer, second class.

She enlisted in the WAVES in September 1943, and took her "boot" training at Hunter college, New York City. She received her advance training at Atlanta, Ga. and it was there she was given the rating of Link trainer instructor.

"One of the greatest thrills of my navy life," said Mrs. McGee, "is to see my own students receive their wings and feel that I have contributed to making them a better pilot."

Her husband who has been stationed overseas with the army, is now home on furlough.
