Miss Helen Fartstrup and Miss Margaret Casey, who taught in the Lone Tree school this year, have joined the WAAC and have gone to Fort Devens, Mass., for their training.

70 Pct. Of Iowa WACs From Fighting Families

A survey of approximately 70 per cent of the total Iowa WAC enlistment reveals its close integration with the war effort through service of members overseas and in this county, and through other members of their families.

FORMER TEACHERS.
Three enlistees of June, all former school teachers, were on foreign duty by the close of the summer.  They were Pvt. Iva Boda, of Sheldahl, now in England, and Pvt. Margaret Casey, of Lawler and Pvt. Helen Farstrup of Exira, both in North Africa.

Helen/Harriet Farstrup MeKee was born Mar. 24, 1920 to Hans J. and Mathilda Farstrup. She died Jan. 2, 2000 and is buried in Jackson Township Cemetery, Montezuma, IA.

Helen served with the U.S. Army WACs in World War II. She was married to Howard Gorsuch McKee. Howard was born Dec. 8, 1918 to William Edgar and Ethel Bernice McKee. He died May 3, 2010. Howard served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps, 59th Fighter Squadron, 33rd Fighter Group.
