Mrs. Marjorie L. Dunlap

 

 

 

Carries On As WAC

Mrs. Marjorie L. Dunlap, 33, of 828 Sixteenth st, widowed last June 2 after her husband, Pvt. (f.c.) Harley V. Dunlap, was killed on the Italian battlefront, joined the women's army corps medical technicians unit Tuesday afternoon.

She was the first Des Moines woman sworn in for the Purple Heart recruiting plan and will be assigned to Schick general hospital, Clinton, Ia., after training at Fort Oglethorpe, Ga.

"I hope I can take the place of somebody who can carry on for Harley" she asserted.

Iowa Volunteers to Serve at Schick Hospital

Marjorie Lucille Green Dunlap Haynes Clark was born Feb. 6, 1911 to John William and Sara Elizabeth Johnson Green. She died June 9, 1991 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, IA. 

She was married to Harley V. Dunlap who was KIA on the Italian battlefront in 1944. She was later married to Lester Earl Haynes. Her name is shown as Clark on her tombstone.
