Sister of Bataan Hero in WAVES

Miss Natalie Mary Dexter, 22, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F.M. Dexter, 4228 Adams st., Thursday was sworn into the WAVES at Des Moines navy recruiting headquarters. She will enter officer candidate training at Northampton, Mass.

Miss Dexter who was graduated Friday from Iowa State College, is a sister of Ivan Dexter, who was killed Feb. 2, 1942, on Bataan while in a tank battalion. Ivan was posthumously decorated.

Miss Dexter, who was graduated from Roosevelt High school here, was sworn in with her college roommate and sorority sister, Miss Ruby Ann Lahmann.

Des Moines in the Services

Natalie Dexter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F.M. Dexter, 4228 Adams ave., has completed the navy officers training at Smith college and is commissioned an ensign.

Ensign Dexter a graduate of Iowa State college and sister of Sergt. Ivan Dexter, tank corpsman killed on Bataan early in the war, has been assigned to duty at the naval air base in Clinton, Okla.

En route to her new post, Ensign Dexter visited her parents in Des Moines.

Natalie Dexter to Be March Bride

Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Marshall Dexter, 4228 Adams st., announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Lt. (j.g.) Natalie Mary Dexter, USNR, to Lt. (j.g.) Neil A. Clanton, USNR, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Clanton of Savannah, Ga.

The wedding will take place early in March with the nuptial vows exchanged the chapel at the naval air station in Clinton, Okla.

The bride-elect was graduated from Roosevelt High School and Iowa State college, where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority. She has been a member of the WAVES since January 1943.

Lieutenant Clanton attends schools in Jacksonville, Fla. and Savannah. He was commissioned a naval aviator at Corpus Christi, Tex. in August 1943. He is now stationed at the naval air station at Clinton.

MARRIED IN NAVY CEREMONY

Lt. (j.g.) Natalie Mary Dexter, U.S.N.R., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Forrest M. Dexter, 4228 Adams ave., and Lt (j.g.) Neil A. Clanton, U.S.N.R., son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Clanton of Savannah, Ga., were married Mar 9 in the chapel of the naval air station at Clinton, Okla.
