OFF TO WASHINGTON -- Six tri-city girls left Davenport yesterday morning for Washington D.C., to start actual duties as WAVES. The group left Davenport last September for Hunter college, New York City where they had three weeks of naval indoctrination. Oct 5, 1943, they were sent to Stillwater, Okla., to begin training prior to becoming third class yeoman. The girls were all given six day leave which they spent with relatives in the tri-cities.  Those shown above are:

Davenport WAVE to Wed Navy Officer

Mr. and Mrs. S.T. Cook of 2422 East street, Davenport, announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their only daughter, Miss Eleanor A. Cook, yeoman, third class, in the WAVES to Lt. (jg) Henry Steinhauer, jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Steinhauer of Paducah, Ky. The wedding is expected to take place sometime this month, depending upon military orders.

The bride-elect is a graduate of the Davenport high school and was employed at the Rock Island arsenal prior to entering the service about two years ago. She is stationed at Washington, D.C. Lt. Steinahuer was graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is stationed at San Diego, Calif.
