City Sending Two More to Service in Women's Corps

Two Waterloo women have been accepted for service in the women's army corps, one with the air transport command and the other in the regular corps., it was announced Wednesday by Lt. Eleanor Lee, at army recruiting headquarters in the federal building here.

New Wacs are Inez L. Campbell, 21, of 408 1/2 East Thompson avenue, and Norma J. Collins, 20, of 744 Conger street.

Miss Campbell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Will Campbell, Hawkeye, Ia., was employed a the John Deere Tractor Co, before her enlistment in the transport command. She will be called to active duty about Aug. 15, and will receive training at Fort Des Moines and Rosecrans field, St. Joseph, Mo.

One brother Virgil P., is serving with the infantry in China, and another, William D., is in training for the navy air corps in Minneapolis, Minn.

Miss Collins, daughter of Mrs. Ruth Collins is at home waiting call to active duty. She will receive six weeks basic training at Fort Des Moines and then will be assigned to further specialized study. A brother Theodore R. Collins, is now serving with the coast guard.

Miss Collins was formerly employed at the Illinois Central railroad office in Waterloo.

INEZ CAMPBELL JOINS WACS

Miss Inez Campbell of Waterloo, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Will Campbell of Hawkeye, has been accepted for service in the Womens' Army Corps. She has enlisted as an Air Wac in the Air Transport Command Army Air Forces. A graduate of the Maynard High School in 1937, she has been employed in hospitals in Marshalltown, Oelwein and Waterloo and for the past year and a half by the Production Dept, John Deere tractor Co, Waterloo.

She will report for basic training about Aug 9., at Ft. Des Moines, and at Rosecrans Field, St. Joseph, Mo. Miss Campbell has two brothers and a brother-in-law in the service: Virgil with the Infantry somewhere in China, William in the Navy Air Corps at Minneapolis, Minn., and Wm F. Sims in the Army Air Corps somewhere in England.

Hawkeye -- Pvt. Inez Livona Campbell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Will Campbell, Hawkeye, a member of the women's army corps, recently left First Wac training center at Ft. Des Moines for duty with the army at Rosecrans field, St. Joseph, Mo.

Pvt. Inez Campbell of the Wac, concluded her 10 day furlough here Sunday with her parents and returned to Dow Field, Bangor, Maine, where she will continue her work in the Air Transport Command. Pvt. Campbell has also volunteered to work in an evacuation hospital in her spare hours after work, which she says is very interesting. She received her basic training at Des Moines and St. Joseph.

Hawkeye -- Mr. and Mrs. William Campbell of near Hawkeye, formerly of Stanley, have a daughter, two sons and a son-in-law in the service of their nation.

Pvt. Inez L Campbell enlisted for special assignment in the air transport command and reported for active duty in August 1944, and is now working in the personnel office in base headquarters at Dow field Bangor, Me., as a file clerk. In her spare time she is a volunteer working in a hospital where wounded are being evacuated.
