WHITTEMORE -- Genevieve Alig is coming home to spend a short vacation at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Alig, before joining the WAVES. Genevieve took nurses training at Des Moines and has been working at Knoxville hospital.

Genevieve M. Alig First Navy Nurse From Whittemore

Genevieve M. Alig, R.N. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. Alig of Whittemore has enlisted in the U.S. Naval Nurse Corps and she left for the Great Lakes Wednesday, March 8. After completion of her final physicals, she was transferred to a naval hospital in San Diego, Calif. Ensign Alig is the first Whittemore nurse to enlist in the Navy Nurse Corps.

Ensign Genevieve Alig arrived here Wednesday evening from San Diego, Calif. She came to attend the wedding of her sister, Miss Aurelia Alig, who was married to George Besch Monday morning.

NURSE RETURNS HOME -- Genevieve M. Alig, R.N., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Alig of Whittemore, has received her discharge from the navy nurses corps and has returned home. She was trained at Mercy hospital, Des Moines, and enlisted in the navy nurses corps March 8, 1944. She was sent to the navy hospital in San Diego where she was advanced in rating to lieutenant junior grade. Her next station was at the navy hospital in Seattle, Wash.
