“ONE MAN” SERVICE ORGANIZATION—Mrs. R. E. Chambers (right above), Ottumwa Navy mother and U.S.O. worker, has collected and distributed more than 50,000 magazines to service men on troop trains as they are halted in the Milwaukee railroad division yards.

She is the recipient of scores of letters from service men on every battle front whose transport hours have been lightened by her gift of magazines.

She particularly prizes one incident when a wounded marine on a hospital train carrying personnel from the South Pacific recognized her as the mother of his former buddy, Cpl. Jack Chambers, with whom he had served in the Solomons.

Mrs. Chambers has also baked and given to these men more than 90 dozen cookies.
