Bernard Bunn and Donald Butler - Civilian Contractors - Wright Co.
Bernard Bunn and Donald Butler were among the 1,146 civilian contractors to assist the Marines and other service members to develop the barren coral island of Wake in the Pacific.
Butler was captured on Wake Island and along with 264 others was shipped to Yokohama and transported to a Japanese Naval Interrogation Camp in Japan. In 1988 he was granted active military service credit for his participation in World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart and other campaign medals.
1st Sgt. Bunn was inducted into the Army and was a master mechanic with the the 534th Engineers Boat and Shore Regiment. He served in New Guinea and Luzon.
