Pvt. Norman F. Smith

 

 

Pvt. Norman Smith Missing In Action.
Formerly Lived On Farm Near Merrill.

The War Department has notified Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Smith of Hartley, that their son, Norman F. Smith, 30, is missing in action in France.  Pvt. Smith was inducted into service from Sibley, July 6, 1941, after he had volunteered.

Pvt. Norman Smith was born and grew up on a farm near Merrill and lived there until about three or four years ago, when the family moved to Hartley to make their home.  He has been overseas the past year.  He is a nephew of Mrs. Lowell Taylor of Akron.

Norman F. Smith was born Apr. 7, 1914 to Oscar F. and Minnie E. Meyer Smith. He died Aug. 10, 1944.

Pvt. Smith served in World War II with the U.S. Army 46th Armored Infantry Battalion, 5th Armored Division and was KIA in LeMans, France. Pvt. Norman Franklin Smith is buried in Forest Cemetery, Coeur d’Alene, ID.
