Pvt. Schwennen, Dumont, Killed in Action in France

Dumont, Ia. -- Pvt. Peter Schwennen was killed in action in France, Oct. 3, according to a telegram received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.G. Schwennen, from the war department. Their last letter from him was written Sept. 26.

Private Schwennen was inducted Dec. 13, 1942, and received his basic training at Camp Clairborne, La. He went to Camp Howzie, Tex. Dec 26, 1943 where he remained until June 6, 1944, when he was transferred to Ft. George T. Meade, Md, for embarkation and was sent to Italy.

Surviving besides his parents are three sisters, Mrs. George E. Moore, Eudora, Kan.; Mrs,. Henry Junker, Jr., Nashua and Mrs. Anna Divine, at home; four brothers, Henry, Ackerly; Elco, Faulkner; Jacob and John George at home.

Peter Schwennen was born Jan. 4, 1920 to John G. and Peternella Schwennen. He died Oct. 3, 1944 and is buried in Dumont Cemetery, Dumont, IA.

Pvt. Schwennen served with the U.S. Army Co. N, 3rd Infantry Division in World War II and was KIA in Epinal, France.
