RALPH PARRISH IS WITH MACARTHUR IN PHILIPPINES

Mrs. Maude Parrish has received word that her son Ralph, who has been in the United States army 15 years is a member of the thirty-first infantry now stationed with Gen. Douglas Mac Arthur in the Philippines. Ralph was born and reared in this community. His mother now lives in Williams.

WILLIAMS YOUTH AMONG PRISONERS IN PHILIPPINES

WASHINGTON, D. C. - (AP) - The names of 1,252 American soldiers who are held as prisoners of war by the Japanese in the Philippine islands were made public Monday by the war department.

Among the Iowans listed as prisoners was Corp. Ralph Parrish, son of Mrs. Maude Parrish of Williams.

Sgt. Parrish was a member of the 31st infantry stationed with Gen. Douglas Mac Arthur in the Philippines. In March 1943 he was among the Iowans listed as prisoners of war by the Japanese. He spent 42 months in a Japanese prison camp. He was captured when Corregidor fell, May 10, 1942, and taken to Cabuantuan, later being transferred to Osaka. From there he was moved to Mitsui, between Yokohama and Tokyo. He also spent some time in camps at Kawasaki and later at Nagoto. On Sept. 6 he was returned to Yokohama and freed.

Ralph Robert Parrish was born Sept. 26, 1907 to Charles W. and Maude Neely Parrish. He died Dec. 31, 1981 and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
