A Letter From Henry Hubers Oct. 10, 1943

Dear Editor: I’m in charge of quarters tonight. So I thought I’d send a few lines to thank you for sending the paper every week. I haven’t seen another Fort Bliss address yet. But the day may come that I’ll get to see a fellow from back home. We go out in the desert just about every other week. It isn’t bad, although it does get cold at night. This past week we had a truck ride over two of the fellows. They were sleeping when the truck rode over them. As we do all black out driving. One of the fellows hurt his chest, the other broke his leg. I think I’ll get a furlough about or around the 1st of next month. I sure would like to see the folks back home again. But I do think I’d miss the army. I think I would get lonesome without my buddies around. I like the army fine. I’ve seen a lot of country in the past 8 months. And I hope to see a lot more. Thanks again for the paper, and I hope to see you all soon.

Yours truly, Sgt. Henry Hubers ASN 37470138 Hdq. and Hdq. Btry. 55th A.A.A. Gp. Fort Bliss, Texas P. S. I thank everybody for the letters I get. And I’d like to hear from more of the folks back home.

(Editor’s note: 1st Sgt. Steven Mouw is also at Ft. Bliss with this address: 35th Rm Pack Troop, 37 Quarter Master. Maybe you can find him, Henry. That’s the only other Ft. Bliss address on our list besides yours).
