Both Boards Send Groups To Ft. Snelling, Minn.
Twenty-seven men left Dubuque Monday morning for Fort Snelling, Minn., where they will be inducted into the service. Dubuque county board 1, sent 14 men and board 2, sent 12.

PVT. HIRD
Pvt. James E. Hird, member of an anti-tank crew, is spending a 10-day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hird, 709 ½ University avenue. The soldier, who has been stationed at Camp Hood, Tex., expects to leave soon for overseas duty.

CORP. HIRD
Corp. James E. Hird, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hird, 709 ½ University avenue, has been promoted from the grade of private first class to the grade of corporal. Corp. Hird is stationed with a military police unit on Oahu, Hawaii.

STAFF SGT. HIRD
Staff Sgt. James E. Hird, 709 ½ University avenue, has been honorably discharged from the United States Army after 32 months service. Sgt. Hird entered the army in January, 1944, and spent 13 months in Hawaii with the 762nd military police battalion before his return to the states for release from the service.
