Pvt. James Lee Harrington

 

 

 

James Lee Harrington was born Mar. 26, 1923, the adopted son of J. Samuel and Addie M. Buck. He died June 6, 1944.

Pvt. Harrington served with the U.S. Army 149th Engineers Combat Battalion in World War II. He was KIA in Normandy, France. He was first declared MIA. He was awarded a Purple Heart.

Pvt. Harrington is not buried in the cemetery at Normandy but is memorialized at the Tablets of the Missing, Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial. 

On June 6, 1944 an explosion occurred in Troop Compartment #1 of LCI #92, causing the compartment to catch on fire. The ship was consequently stranded on Omaha Beach and Pvt. Harrington’s body was never recovered.
