Largest Group Ordered To Report For Army Exam; Sixty-Five Sioux County Men Must Report On August 18; Eight Of Group From Hull 

The following registrants have been sent Orders to Report for Army Examination on August 18th. These men will be sent for examination and if qualified, sworn in and given two weeks furlough before being sent to a reception center for actual induction.

Ralph Menning entertained his Sunday School class Wednesday evening in honor of Peter Groen who left for army service Sept. 1. The Newkirk ball team honored Peter Groen who left for the army, at a party Monday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Oolbekkink.

Peter J. Groen, SN 37438044, was born Feb. 3, 1917, at Sheldon, Iowa, where he resided when he entered the army on Sept. 2, 1942, at Camp Dodge, Iowa. He departed for foreign service on June 15, 1945, and returned on Feb. 1, 1946. He served with the Washington National Airport A.A.B. 503rd A.A.F. Base Unit A.T.C. Wash. D. C., Bolling Field, Washington D.C. and 1384th AAF Base Unit NAW-AP ATC, and was honorably discharged on Feb. 8, 1946. His application for bonus pay was filed on June 17, 1949, for which he received $447.50.
