Earlville Flyer Given Important ATC Assignment

FAIRFIELD, Calif. - Capt. Truman W. Cummings, son of Dr. and Mrs. W.C. Cummings of Earlville, Ia., and veteran of 50 bombing missions in the European, North African and Mediterranean theaters, has been assigned to the air transport command at the Fairfield-Suisun army air base.
While at this base, Capt. Cummings' duties will be to aid in the dispatch of personnel, high priority cargo and air mail to the Pacific theater of operations. Giant C-54 Skymaster transport planes fly sick and wounded military personnel from combat zones to this base on regular air evacuation flights.

Capt. Cummings holds the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with eight Oak Leaf clusters.

Truman William Cummings was born June 18, 1917 to William C. and Goldie S. Phillips Cummings. He died Dec. 10, 2004 in FL.

Capt. Cummings served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps flying B-17s in the campaign in North Africa. After flying 50 missions and receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal, he left the Air Corps with the rank of Major.
