Lt. Andrew A. Borntrager, Jr.

 

 

Andrew A. Borntrager was born Nov 24, 1927 to Andrew A. (Sr.) ‘Andy’ and Barbara D. Plank Borntrager. He died June 14, 2012 and is buried in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter, IA.

Lt. Borntrager served with the U.S. Army during World War II in Germany. He also served in Korea.

Andrew A. Borntrager, Jr., son of Barbara Ann (Plank) and Andrew A. Borntrager, Sr., was born on November 24, 1927 in Garnett, Kansas and graduated from Kalona High School. Andrew enlisted in the United States Army and served in Germany during World War II, as a 2nd Lieutenant, and was honorably discharged in 1954.

Andrew worked as a truck driver until he retired.

Andrew and Shirley Ann Boots were married on January 5, 1951 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Lee, Cheryl, and Sandy.

Due to declining health, Andrew recently moved to the Hospice of Heart Home in Glenwood, Iowa where he passed away on June 14, 2012, at the age of 84 years, 6
months, and 20 days. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Andrew is survived by his wife Shirley Borntrager of Council Bluffs; children, Lee Borntrager and wife Donna of Cedar Rapids, Cheryl Anson and husband Jeffrey, and Sandy Altic, all of Council Bluffs; eight grandchildren; and ten great
grandchildren.

Military services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2012, at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa.
