Navy Accepts First North Iowa Negro
Since World War I

Lafayette R. Robinson, Manly, became the first North Iowa Negro to be accepted for enlistment by the United States navy sub-station since World War I, A. Holthus, chief petty officer, announced Tuesday.

Robinson, who formerly was a farmer near Manly, left Tuesday for the state recruiting center to take the final physical examination. He will enter the general reserve of the navy.
