Wayne J. Hamilton, Cpl., is in New Guinea probably operating a bulldozer. He has a sharpshooter medal. He has seen Jap bombing and has had to use fox holes but has done no fighting. “Red” says he no longer cares for cocoanuts but when they can’t get water he does drink the fluid from green ones.

MERRILL MAN RECEIVES BRONZE STAR FOR HEROIC ACHIEVEMENT
The Bronze Star has been awarded to Technician Fourth Grade Wayne Hamilton, son of Mrs. Daisy Norton of Merrill. He was awarded the Bronze Star for heroic achievement against the enemy at Limon, Leyte, Philippine Islands, December 10, 1944, while serving with the Combat Engineers of the veteran 32nd Division in the Philippines.
When artillery fire shelled his company’s motor pool, T/4 Hamilton left his position of safety to move valuable engineer equipment from the field of fire.
In civilian life T/4 Hamilton was with the Clark Construction Co. doing highway construction work. After the war, he hopes to return to the same job. He graduated from Merrill high school in 1941 and was President of his class.
