Woodbine Sailor on Liberty Ship Saved From Death

WOODBINE – George Glen Coe, 29, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Coe, who has been in the navy since last November, has notified his parents by telephone that he was one of the 1,000 sailors saved when the Liberty ship, the Henry Berge, was grounded on the rocks of Farralon Island, 50 miles west of San Francisco last week. He told his mother he “paddled around in the water for an hour and a half” before being picked up by patrol boats. He reported he lost all his personal belongings and that he expected to be home soon on furlough.
