Purple Heart Awarded To Francis Bridgeman

James Bridgeman of Prescott has received official notice from the War Department that the decoration of the Purple Heart has been awarded posthumously to his son, Sgt. Francis J. Bridgeman, who was killed in action in North Africa on March 29.

The Purple Heart decoration will be forwarded directly to Mr. Bridgeman by the Commanding Officer, Philadelphia Quartermaster Depot, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and should be received within ten days or two weeks.

Francis James Bridgeman was born Jan. 7, 1917 to James and Elizabeth Mary Sullivan Bridgeman. He died Mar. 29, 1943 and is buried in Fairview Cemetery, Lenox, IA.

Sgt. Bridgeman served in World War II with the U.S. Army 168th Infantry, 34th Division and was KIA.
