James Robert Lanning was born Apr. 3, 1924 to Willis C. and Bernice Buck Lanning. He died Apr. 29, 1945, was buried at sea, and is memorialized at the Courts of the Missing, Court 3, Honolulu Memorial, Honolulu, Hawaii.

Petty Officer Lanning served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Hazelwood (DD-531) which was hit in a kamikaze attack and ten officers and 67 men were killed and 37 were missing. He was KIA and awarded the Purple Heart.

Melvin Edward Liter was born Mar. 22, 1920 to Edgar and Cornelia DuPree Liter. He died Sept. 15, 1944 and is buried in Oak Wood Cemetery, Pella, IA.

Sgt. Liter served in World War II with the U.S. Marine Corps.
