Roy served in World War II with the U.S. Army 194th Field Artillery and saw combat in North Africa, Italy, France and Germany, including the battle of Anzio.

Donald LaVern Speelmon was born June 25, 1918 to Burton H. and Hazel M. Martin Speelmon. He died July 1, 1998 and is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Cherokee, IA.
