Staver James Hyndman was born Dec. 14, 1921 to Malcolm J. and Christina M. Staver Hyndman. He died Oct. 1, 2007 and is buried in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cherokee, IA.

Staver served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 398th Bomb Group, Eighth Air Force as a pilot flying 35 missions. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his raid on Merseberg, Germany where he was forced to crash land near Bruges Belgium. He was also awarded the U.S. Air Medal with six clusters, World War II Victory and European Theatre Operations medals.
