Gerald John Hedstrom was born Jan. 5, 1927 to Jubel Franklin and Florence Mae Johnson Hedstrom. He died July 14, 2016 and is buried in Kiron Cemetery, Kiron, IA. Gerald served with the U.S. Army in World War II.

Etlar August Henningsen was born Oct. 24, 1916 to Julius August and Methea Jorgine Krog Henningsen. He died Aug. 11, 2014 and is buried in Newell Cemetery, Newell, IA.

Capt. Henningsen served in World War II with the U.S. Army mobile tank destroyer unit under the 14th Armored Division, the “Liberators”, that started their tour of duty in North Africa under General Patton and then mobilized in Italy, France, and Germany. He was a company commander of the attack tanks who led the charge against Rommel’s Panzers in multiple battles in North Africa. They continued fighting with the Allied forces up the Italian peninsula, fighting battles at Salerno, Monte Cassino, and Anzio among many.
