Capt. Carl L. VanTasell was born Feb. 10, 1920 to Ernest M. and Muriel I. Dudley. He died Feb. 7, 2012 and is buried in Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Adel, IA.

Capt. VanTasell served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps flying B-25s in the Aleutian Islands. He was recalled for the Korean conflict. He served 30 years as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force, including a tour of duty in Vietnam, flying B-47s and then B-52s. He retired at the rank of Colonel in 1971. He was awarded the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal and Oak Leaf Cluster and the Air Force Commendation Medal.

Capt. Carl VanTasell was married to Jean Marie Klotzbach. Jean was born Dec. 16, 1921 to Vernon K. and Hermine A. Gerdes Klotzbach. She died Oct. 12, 2018 and is buried in Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Adel, IA.

Lt. Jean VanTasell served with the U.S. Army in World War II. She was stationed at the Station Hospital, Lowry Field in Denver, CO and Station Hospital, Amarillo Army Air Base in Amarillo, TX.
