Theodore William Lampe was born Sept. 12, 1918 to August Henry and Clara Schnurstein Lampe. He died Feb. 28, 1942 and is memorialized at the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines and has a cenotaph in Harlington Cemetery, Waverly, IA.

Coxswain Lampe served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Langley (CV-1). He survived the sinking of the Langley and was picked up by the USS Pecos (AO-6) and was declared MIA in the sinking of that vessel. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

Herman H. Lahmann was born Sept. 27, 1915 to Herman H. and Lena Pauline Spier Lahmann. He died Jan. 30, 1978 and is buried in Saint Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Seigel, IA. Herman served with the U.S. Army in World War II.

Winford Leon and Lula May Shorter Lantz Family 

Delbert Charles Lantz was born Dec. 11, 1921 to Winford Leon and Lula May Shorter Lantz. He died May 8, 1990 and is buried in Garden of Memories, Waterloo, IA. Delbert served in World War II with the U.S. Army 79th Infantry and received three Purple Hearts.

Earl Roy Lantz was born Nov. 11, 1915 to Winford Leon and Lula M. Shorter Lantz. He died Oct. 14, 1987 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Nashua, IA. Earl served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps.

Gerald Frank “Jerry” Lantz was born Dec. 6, 1910 to Winford Leon and Lula M. Shorter Lantz. He died May 16, 1977 and is buried in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, Charles City, IA. Petty Officer Lantz served with the U.S. Navy in World War II. He received the Purple Heart among other honors.

John Franklin Larson was born May 15, 1915 to Nels and Elma Williams Larson. He died Feb. 4, 1985 and is buried in Ruddick Cemetery, Garfield, Arkansas. Sgt. Larson served with the U.S. Army in World War II.

Vernon Robert Larson was born Dec. 29, 1919 to Nels and Elma Williams Larson. He died Dec. 31, 2000 and is buried in Bland Cemetery, Rogers, Arkansas. Vernon served in World War II with the U.S. Army 142nd Combat Engineers.

Forest Albert Lavell was born Sept. 15, 1919 to Forest A. and Dora Shirley Lavell. He died Apr. 19, 1963 and is buried in Harlington Cemetery, Waverly, IA. Sgt. Lavell served with the U.S. Army Medical Dept. in World War II.  


Robert E. Lee was born May 15, 1925 to Ned Ira and Helen Ruth McGilligan Lee. He died Mar. 19, 1945 and is memorialized at the Courts of the Missing, Court 3, Honolulu Memorial, Honolulu, Hawaii and has a cenotaph in Oakland Cemetery, Janesviille, IA.

Petty Officer Lee served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Franklin (CV-13) and was MIA/KIA. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

Harold William Lenius was born Oct. 25, 1918 to Rufus L. and Lucinda Bertha Mahlstedt Lenius. He died Sept. 7, 2016 and is buried in Lee Cemetery, Winnsboro, TX. Petty Officer Lenius served in World War II with the U.S. Navy, stationed in Brisbane, Australia where he helped build, equip and service a very specialized Naval base, and began his Navy career as a metal worker to keep ships afloat.

Robert Donald Lenius was born June 19, 1924 to Rufus L. and Lucinda Bertha Mahlstedt Lenius. He died Oct. 2, 1977 and is buried in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Gotha, FL. Robert served in World War II with the U.S. Marine Corps 12th Motor Transport Battalion, Pearl Harbor Marine Base.
