Petty Officer Adams served in World War II with the U.S. Navy and was MIA/FOD//KIA while serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS Liscome Bay (CVE-56) when it was sunk by the enemy near the Gilbert Islands. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Purple Heart.
