Merle Frederick Gales was born June 10, 1916 to John P. and Louisa Benzow Gales. He died Apr. 10, 1947 and is buried in Calvary Cemetery, Waterloo, IA.

Petty Officer Gardner served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Sims (DD-409) and was MIA/FOD/KIA when that ship was sunk as a result of a bombing attack in the Southwest Pacific (Battle of The Coral Sea). He was awarded the Navy-Marine Corps Medal and Purple Heart.

MSgt. Gerken served with the U.S. Army in World War II and Korea.

MSgt. Graham served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps and died in a bomber at Asmara, Eritrea, Africa while in the service of his country.
