VITAL STATISTICS OF DECORAH,
A Very Remarkable Showing in the City’s Death Records.

Our reporter happened in on City Assessor McMasters one day last week and secured the foregoing pointer. His enumeration of births and-deaths show there were 53 of the former during 1901 and only 20 deaths. Of the latter 10 were males and 13 females. Per contra. females predominated in the births, there being 32 of them and 21 males. An examination of the deaths discloses that only 10 of the 21 were under 40 years of age, and only 3 were infants, and four under 20 years of age. At the other extreme, 4 were over 80, the oldest being 85. Six were between 70 and 80, 5 were between 60 and 70 and 3 between 50 and 60. The safest spot seemed to be between 40 and 50, there being not a death in that decade. To 10 deaths under 40 there were nineteen over 50, This showing, in its entirety, and as a whole is very remarkable.

The average number or deaths is a little less than nine per thousand, which is an unusually healthy ratio. Following is a list of those over 65 years:
