LUTHER COLLEGE COMMENCEMENT.

Exercises at the College Gymnasium
Yesterday—Eighteen
Graduates.
The annual commencement exercises of Luther College took place yesterday morning at 10:30 o'clock when eighteen young men stepped out to take their places in the world’s work; to bear testimony of the high standing and worth of their alma mater, and to add fresh laurels to her crown as the leading educational institution of the Norwegian Lutheran Church of America. As usual, there was a large attendance at the exercises and the occasion was all that could be desired. It was even more than that because there were presiding on the platform Rev. V. Koran, President of the Synod, and President Larsen, who is just closing his career of forty- two years as the head of the College. Whatever may be the good fortunes of future classes, the memories of the class of 1902 will look back upon commencement day with the pleasant remembrance that it was these two venerable gentlemen and scholars who gave them their parting counsel and advice. The program was as follows:
Hymn.
Prayer by Rev. I. R Torrison.

Commencement week began Sunday with the baccalaureate sermon which was delivered by Rev A K. Sagen of Lacrosse. A number of social functions have also been features of the week, the first of which was a reception at the home of Prof Reque Saturday evening. Sunday afternoon and evening Prof and Mrs. Larsen were at home to the graduating class and a large number of friends. And Monday evening Prof and Mrs. Bothne entertained the students. Yesterday afternoon the annual alumni ball game was played. Much interest centered in this feature this year because of the prospect of a number of the old players being present. When the teams lined up for the contest it was found that the prediction had been verified, for there was Torrison, ‘95 catcher, Preus, ’01, pitcher. Anderson, ‘01, shortstop, Gullixson, ‘00, 1st, Juul, ’94, 2d, Linde, ’01, ‘3d, Lyngaas, ‘97, right, Winger, ‘97, center, and Torgerson, ’99, left—several of them in good practice. The game opened with a rush and the old boys had four runs before the regular team scored. In fact the way the alumni had their heads in the game made it look dubious, and they batted Smeby more freely than has any team this season. In the fourth Brekke opened with a home run and this was followed up with frequent hits during the balance of the game that turned the tide and won for the regulars by a score of 12 to 7 Severeid was substituted for Smeby in the 5th and did very effective work The battery work of Preus and Torrison was a feature for the alumni.

Among those from out of town who have been present at commencement are Stensrud and Anker ‘93. Reque and Juul ’94, Moldstad, Thorson and Torrison ’95, Lyngaaas and Wollan ‘97. Winger and Ordahl ’98, Torgerson ‘99, Gullixson and Dale ’00, Teisberg, Linde, Brauer, Anderson and Hexom ’01, L. M. Gimmestad, ’91, Christian Anderson ‘89, Ole Otterson ’89, O. ? Wollan, Glenwood, Minn. Gerhard Reque and sister, Spring Grove.

Quite a number of visitors from out of town, friends of the graduates, have been present to attend commencement. Among them were Miss Smeby of Albert Lea, Miss Thorn Ylvisaker of Robbinsdale, Miss Torrison of Manitowoe, Misses Anna and Mary Gullixson of Bode, Iowa, Miss Della Olson, sister of Prof Oscar Olson, Mrs. D. O. Anker of Ridgeway
