LUTHER COLLEGE.
Commencement Exercises of the Preparatory and Collegiate Departments.
The thirty-fourth year for Luther College has closed and another splendid class of young men have passed from her doors to do honor and credit to an institution which is chief among all the Norwegian Lutheran colleges of America. The closing exercises were held Tuesday afternoon at four o’clock and at ten o’clock yesterday morning. Tuesday afternoon a class of twenty-two from the preparatory department graduated. This exercise is a feature which was introduced several years ago, and a student who holds a certificate of having successfully passed the examination is entitled to enter the collegiate department of any other college without examination.

The graduating exercises in the collegiate department assumed a new form this year. The salutatory, valedictory, etc., were abolished, and in place thereof an appropriate program which included two addresses by members of the graduating class, music by the glee club and band, and an address by President Larson was given. "International Bi-metalism” was the subject of N. J. Hong's address, and L M. Orwoll spoke on “Reformation.” On behalf of the class O. E. Heimdahl addressed a few appropriate words of parting to the faculty. President Larson spoke to considerable length, dwelling upon the benefit and advantage of a classical education, closing his remarks with words of good, wholesome advice to the class. The exercises were, as usual, largely attended and were closed by prayer and benediction pronounced by the venerable Pastor Otteson, of the Decorah parish of the 1st Evangelical Lutheran church.
