THE KOREAN WAR

In 1950, for the third time in this century, the United States became involved in a foreign war. President Truman called for partial mobilization on July 19th. Once again the young men of Ossian were called to military service.

We have compiled a roster of community servicemen who served in this conflict. Unfortunately, there seems to be no surviving list per se. We caution that this roll, too, may be neither complete or 100% accurate.

In 1952, Pfc. Robert Schroeder, son of Mrs. Florence Schroeder, was accidently electrocuted at Randolph Air Force Base in Texas. Robert attempted to assist Corp. Cloyd Mix, a fellow airman, who had been knocked to the ground and killed when the boom of a derrick came in contact with a high tension electric wire carrying 31,000 volts of electricity.

Military funeral services were held at St. Francis Catholic Church with the Rev. E. J. Frost officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
