Linda Shattack Lauds and Laurels award

She moved to Long Beach, CA in 1967 where she was employed at the Veteran’s Hospital for two years. Linda has now been employed at the University of California, Irvine, (Oncology-Hematology) Cancer Center for more than 25 years. In recent years she has worked in the position of Nurse Administrator as Operations Manager. In 1986 Linda received the University's "Lauds and Laurels Award" as distinguished staff member.

Lois and Gregg Shattack

Gregory “Gregg” Shattuck was born in Decorah, IA, the son of Robert and Ethel (Sandbeck) Shattuck. He graduated from Decorah High School and then served in the Navy for four years during the Vietnam Conflict. Gregg married Lois Bentley of rural Spring Grove, MN on 20 May 1978 at the Big Canoe Lutheran Church, rural Decorah. Gregg and Lois have two children: Bryan James (b. at New Hampton, IA) and Sara Jean (b.  at Waterloo, IA). Both are students at the New Hampton schools. Gregg also has a son, Gregory Robert, Jr. by his first marriage to Janeen Howard in 1972. Gregg and Janeen were later divorced. Gregory, Jr. was born  at Whidbey Island, WA (Gregg’s home base while in the Navy serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ranger). Gregory, Jr. lives in Arlington, TX. Gregg has been line foreman for the New Hampton Municipal Plant for 18 years.

The Sheetz Family

Andrew Sheetz was born 2 Jun 1817 in Harrisburg, Lebanon Co., PA. He was the son of George (born in Germany) and Marie (Foreman) Sheetz. In 1830 Andrew married Catharine Strayer. Catharine was born 10 Sep 1820 at Harrisburg to Valentine Strayer and Catharine Bealy. They came to Winneshiek Co. in 1852 and settled on a farm north of Freeport. Andrew and Catharine had 6 daughters and 1 son: Mary, Elizabeth, Lucy, Ella, Angenette, Malinda and Aaron. Catharine died 5 Jan 1880. Andrew then married Hannah (Mansfield) Birdsell on 9 Feb 1882. Hannah died a year later. He next married Lucia (Hathaway) Waller. Andrew died 27 Dec 1887 and is buried with his first 2 wives in the Freeport Church Cemetery.

Mary (b. 10 Feb 1839, Powell’s Valley, Dauphin Co., PA) married Darwin Knight. They had 2 sons: Frank and Aaron. Darwin died when the boys were young. Mary then married Andrew Ruffridge who died 6 Apr 1897. She died 26 May 1922 and is buried in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Freeport.

Elizabeth (b. 1843, Powell’s Valley) married Ellis Rallys. Ellis and Elizabeth had 1 son, Edward. Elizabeth died 15 Mar 1864 giving birth to their second son. Soon after birth the baby also died. Ellis died 22 Dec 1865 soon after being discharged from the Army. Elizabeth, Ellis and the baby were first buried on the home farm, but when the farm was sold, they were removed to the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Freeport. Edward was adopted by W.H.H. Lamm, Hesper, after his father died.
