Diedrich married Fredricka Hinuber in 1872 at the old pioneer church which still stands beside Highway 52 between Garnavillo and Guttenburg. Diedrich farmed in Clayton Co. until 1875 when he bought a farm near Ossian. Diedrich and Fredricka became the parents of 4 children: Katie (m. Herman Lang), August, Emma (m. Julius Brown), and Tillie (m. John DeCou). After 46 years of marriage, Fredricka passed away in 1918. Their daughter Katie, widowed in 1915, came to live with Diedrich and care for him at his home in Castalia. When Katie died in 1932, Diedrich moved to the home of Julius and Emma Brown until his death in 1933.
