the Erick Lomen farm. Two sons, Hans and Anton, were born there. The Jens Erickson Ness family were living at Washington Prairie during the 1860 Iowa Census. They soon moved to a farmstead located in the community of Springwater in Canoe Twp. Jens and Ingeborg remained on the Springwater farmstead for the remainder of their lives. Two children, Caroline and Christine, were born their. Their eldest son Edward became a Civil War veteran.

Jens Erickson Ness family

The marriage of Jens and Ingeborg lasted 52 years until death parted them. Ingeborg passed away 17 Oct 1894 at age 72. Jens died 4 Jul 1895 at age 75. He had been a resident of IA for 41 years at the time of his death. Jens and Ingeborg were members of Big Canoe Lutheran Church and were buried in the church cemetery. The Erickson farm at Springwater continued to be owned and farmed by Andrew and Caroline (Erickson) Myrah.

The 8 children of Jens and Ingeborg all grew to young man and womanhood, married and had families of their own. Edward Erickson (b. 1843) married Ingeborg Tobiason in 1869 and lived at Springwater in Canoe Twp. They had 11 children: John, Theodore, Hans, Ingebret, Ada, Anna Marie, Louis, Edgar, Engre, Olias and Otto. (See Edward Erickson). Anna Maria (b. 1846) married George F. Moore in 1870. They moved to Nebraska to take up homestead land in 1873. They had 4 children: Nellie, Clara, John and Clarence. (See George F. Moore). Gustava (b. 1850) married Charles 0. Moore in 1867 and lived in Decorah Twp. They had 3 children: Ida, Henry and John Lewis. (See Charles 0. Moore). Mathea (b. 1853) married Martin A. Blagen in 1876 and lived in Canoe and Pleasant Twps. They had 5 children: Ida, Anne (infant), Amanda (infant), Alfred and Emma. (See Martin A. Blagen). Hans Erickson Ness (b. 1856) married Guri Valle in 1877 and lived in Pleasant Twp. They had 13 children: Oscar (infant), Marie, Clara, Oscar, Ellen, Betsy (infant), Willie, Harry, Stanton, Lillie, Charles (infant), Norman and one unnamed infant. (See Hans Erickson Ness). Anton Erickson (b. 1859) married Anna Johnson Huseby in 1896 and lived in Decorah. They later moved to North

Dakota and Washington. They had 4 sons: Jesse, George, Arnold and Wilbert. (See Anton Erickson). Caroline (b. 1862) married Andrew P Myrah in 1886 and lived in Canoe Twp. They had 7 children: Julius, Clarence, Elsie, Ida Amanda (infant), Ingvald, Ida and Carol. (See Andrew P Myrah). Christine (b. 1865) married Sever O. Ellingson in 1891 and lived in Canoe Twp. They had 2 children: Johnny and Ida. (See Sever O. Ellingson).

Nesteby, James and Phyllis (Nordheim)

James ’Jim" Alfred Nesteby was born in Waterville, IA, Allamakee Co. 1 Jun 1934 to Alfred and Clara Geneva (Sonstegard) Nesteby. Alfred was born 16 Aug 1891 in Echo, MN and Clara was born 29 Apr 1898 in Cavalier Co., Milton, SD. Alfred and Clara were married 9 Jun 1915. They had 7 sons: Arnold Kenneth, Verdene Edgar (died in infancy), Burnell Sidney, Gerald Vernon, Lyle Donald, James and Emmett Allen.

Jim married Phyllis Irene Nordheim 30 May 1957 in Decorah, IA. Phyllis was born in Winneshiek Co. to Wallace M. and Ulah I. (Bollman) Nordheim. Wallace was born 19 Oct 1904 in Winneshiek Co. and Ulah was born 9 Feb 1909 in Grand Forks, ND. Wallace and Ulah were married 13 Jun 1931 in Decorah. They had 8 children: Shirley Ann (d. 17 Nov 1975), Phyllis, Ellen Lucille and Evelyn May (twins), Ruth Elizabeth, Kenneth Edwin, Robert Willard and Ardith Elaine.

Jim and Phyllis have 2 daughters: Julie Ann and Beth Renae. Both were born in Decorah. Julie married Thomas L. Byrnes 21 Jun 1980 and they have 2 children: Tyler Thomas and Kaitlyn Beth. Beth married John R. Weis 3 Jul 1987 and they have 2 children: Benjamin John and Emily Ann.

Jim was drafted into the Army in 1957 and recalled in 1962 during the Berlin Crisis. Jim worked at Deco Products in Decorah for 32 years as a supervisor. Phyllis
