Ignatius and Elizabeth were married 19 Jun 1928. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage before Ignatius's death 1 Jun 1990. Alma lived with her family until age 16 on the Hageman family farm, Section 3 in Washington Twp., midway between Calmar and Ft. Atkinson, adjacent to Hwy. 24. Her parents retired to Calmar in 1966. Alma’s brothers were: Urban (deceased); Leon of Mabel, MN; LaVerne of Ft. Atkinson; Alfred of Cedar Rapids, IA; and 4 sisters: Bernice Hackman of West Union; Dorothy Schmitt and Mary Rausch of Ft. Atkinson; and Theresa Cunitz of Norwalk, Wl.

Peter and Alma were married 6 Sep 1969 and have lived in Calmar the past 26 years. Their children are Corey, Amy and Jennifer, all born at the Winneshiek Co. Memorial Hospital in Decorah: Corev Kenneth is a 1993 Eagle Scout of Troop #199, a 1994 Iowa Boys State Representative, a Cedar Rapids Gazette Newspaper carrier for 8 years and a 1995 graduate of South Winneshiek High School, Calmar. He is currently attending Kirkwood College in Cedar Rapids. Amv Lvnn is currently a freshman at South Winneshiek High School, active in music, drama and sports. Amy was the 1994-95 Fourth District American Legion Auxiliary Junior President and Calmar Creators 4-H Club president. Jennifer Lea is an eighth grade student at CFS School in Calmar. Jennifer enjoys piano, sports, and is the 4-H Club treasurer. The family belongs to St. Aloysius Parish in Calmar.

Peter continues to work at Calmar Manufacturing Company, the manufacturing business founded by his ancestors over 100 years ago. Peter was a 1964 South Winneshiek High School graduate and 1969 Area One Voc-Tech graduate. His military service was in the U.S. Army, 1966-1968, serving a year in Viet Nam. He belongs to the American Legion Post #266 in Calmar, serving as the Post Adjutant for the past 20 years. He enjoys hunting and fishing in his spare time and has been Fire Chief of the Calmar Volunteer Fire Department since 1979.

Alma, a 1968 South Winneshiek High School graduate, received her LPN and Registered Nurse education and graduated in 1969 and 1971 from the community college in Calmar. She has served as a Calmar 4-H leader for over 10 years, on the Winneshiek Co. Board of Health for 2 terms, on the Iowa American Legion Auxiliary Girls State Board for 4 years, was president of the Fourth District American Legion Auxiliary, District 14 President of the Iowa Nurses Association and president of the St. Al’s Rosary Society. For 25 years Alma has been involved with Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, ACCW, ALA, and many state, district and local community service committees. Alma has been employed as the South Winneshiek School Nurse since 1971 to the present time.

Meyer, William and Katherine (Schroeder)

William A. Meyer (b. 1 Aug 1876) was one of 8 children born to William and Louise Meyer. He married Katherine Schroeder, a daughter of Bernhard F. and Louise (Overbeck) Schroeder. William and Katherine settled in Bloomfield Twp. in 1900. They farmed southwest of Castalia. Katherine died in 1943 and William died in 1948. The 7 children of William and Katherine were: Charlotte, Harold, Earl, Florence, Wilbert, Leonhard and Mabel.

Charlotte married Alf Olson. They operated a hatchery in Elkader, IA and then moved to OR and AZ. Both are deceased. Charlotte had one son, Elmer Meyer, also deceased. Harold F. (b. 16 Jun 1902-16 Nov 1982) (See Harold Meyer history.) Earl F. (24 Nov 1904-24 Nov 1987) married Florence Anderson 7 May 1925. Their children are Marian Willard, Madonna Jean and Lois Lorraine. They farmed near Castalia, then moved to Waukon and later to Cedar Rapids. Earl was twin to Florence. Florence B. (24 Nov 1904 (a twin to Earl)-1 May 1992) was the organist at Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia for many years. She moved to Cedar Rapids where she worked at Bishop’s Restaurant. Florence never married. Wilbert (1906-1910) Of. Leonhard C. (b. 11 Nov 1908-26 Jun 1984) farmed the family farm until moving to Waterloo. Mabel W. (8 Mar 1911-9 Nov 1990) married George Blumhagen 19 Feb 1931. They had 3 children: Mardella and twins Loren and Loretta. George died 3 Feb 1936. Mabel married Carl Schnitzler 11 Dec 1947. Mabel was a cosmetologist in Decorah from 1942-1971. She and Carl then moved to Cedar Rapids.

Mikelson, Knut and Anna (Gulickson)

Anna Gulickson, daughter of Nels and Martha Gulickson, married Knut Mikelson 13 Mar 1905. Knut was confirmed as Knut Haakenson Skage. His father’s name was Haaken and Skage was the name of the farm in Norway. He later changed his name to Mikelson since people at that time wanted more American names. The name Mikelson was perhaps chosen because Knut had an uncle in Norway named Mikkel. Knut had a sister
